No. 29 ranked Mount Union's wrestling team heads to Wheaton, Illinois to compete in the 2013 Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational, which is held on the campus of Wheaton College Friday, February 1st and Saturday, February 2nd.
The Purple Raiders are coming off an Ohio Athletic Conference loss to #18 ranked Ohio Northern last Tuesday in a dual, 21-17
At Last year's Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational, Mount Union placed third with a score of 92.5 points.
There are 32 teams competing in this year's Invitational, including five OAC schools, Heidelberg, John Carroll, #17 Ohio Northern, #29 Mount Union and Muskingum. Of the 32 teams competing, there are 10 ranked in the top 30 teams (National Wrestling Coaches Assosciation Division III Poll TOP 30 LIST).
The Raiders had six wrestlers place in last year's invitational led by Derick Hesson had a perfect record of 5-0 at 285-pounds won the championship by decision over Corey Anderson (Wisconsin-Whitewater) 7-2. Mount Union's Josh Malave took third place at 141-pound when he won by major decision over Victor Bracey (Messiah) 13-5, and finished with a 5-1 record.
Other Raiders that placed were Kevin Shadrach who placed fifth at 149 was 5-2 during the invitational, Andy Jenkins who placed sixth at 184 was 3-3, John Piechuta went 3-3 and placed eighth at 165 and TJ Arnone who placed eighth at 133 finished with a 3-2 record.
Sophomore's Dan Hoberney (Wickliffe/Eastlake North) went 2-2 at 125 and Jon Garrison (Fairlawn/Copley) went 3-2 at 157, at last year's invitational. Lambert McElrath finished the invitational with a 2-2 record at 174 while Chad Teague went 0-2 at 197.
