TIFFIN, Ohio -- Mount Union's wrestling team suffered a close 27-16 Ohio Athletic Conference loss at Heidelberg Tuesday in Tiffin.
The Purple Raiders fall to 7-10 overall and 2-2 in the OAC while Heidelberg is 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Mount Union did score bonus points in its three wins but lost four other bouts by four points or less to take the loss.
Mount Union started off with pins in two of the first three bouts. Nick Mancini (Boardman/Boardman) got an early second period fall at 125 and Alec Cotton (Hartville/Lake), ranked No. 5 in the nation at 141, got a first period pin to allow the Raiders to get out to a 12-3 lead.
The Berg came right back and won six of the next seven matches with pins at 149 and 174 with a close decision wins of 10-6 at 157, 7-4 at 184 and 4-2 at 197 then finishing the match with an 8-1 win at 285.
Mount Union's win during the stretch came from a major decision by Jesse Gross (Norwalk/St. Paul) at 165.
The Raiders close out the regular season with a pair of home conference duals Feb. 14 against Baldwin Wallace and Feb. 18 against Otterbein in Alliance.
