Wrestling: No. 9 Mount Union Tied for First at NCAA Central Regional; Nine Raiders Still Remain

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – No. 9 Mount Union is currently tied for first place out of 18 teams with No. 6 Baldwin Wallace, tallying 76 total points after the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III Central Regional at Wabash College. Host No. 13 Wabash College (Ind.) sits third with 73.5 points.

The Purple Raiders have eight wrestlers in championship brackets and one in a consolation bracket. The top three finishers in each of the 10 weight classes advance to the NCAA Division III Championships taking place March 9-10 at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio.

Remaining in their respective championship brackets are No. 7 Nick Mancini (Boardman/Boardman), Nolan Wochna (Brecksville-Brecksville-Broadview Heights), Alec Cotton (Hartville/Lake), Luke Hernandez (Nashport/Tri-Valley), Michael McIntire (Wadsworth/St. Vincent-St. Mary), Jesse Gross (Norwalk/St. Paul), No. 2 Jairod James (Bedford/Bedford) and Isaiah Watson-Kirksey (Alliance/Alliance).

The eight wrestlers combined for seven pins, three tech falls and a double sudden-victory in 16 matches. The rest were all decided by decision.

Senior Cody Carr (Brookville/Brookville) is still standing in the consolation bracket at 285 pounds as he will go against Nick Joyner (Manchester) in the quarterfinals for a chance to place in the top six.

Wrestling will resume Saturday, February 24 starting at 10:00 a.m.
