Wrestling: Six Purple Raiders Named to All-OAC Teams

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Mount Union has six wrestlers named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference wrestling teams for the 2017-18 season.

Highlighting the first team is senior Nick Mancini (Boardman/Boardman) at 125 pounds, freshman Michael McIntire (Wadsworth/St. Vincent-St. Mary) at 157 and junior Jairod James (Bedford/Bedford) at 174.

Representing the Purple Raiders on the second team is freshman Nolan Wochna (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) at 133, senior Alec Cotton (Hartville/Lake) at 141 and sophomore Isaiah Watson-Kirksey (Alliance/Alliance) at 184.

This is Nick Mancini's fourth-straight appearance on the All-OAC First Team. After going undefeated in OAC matches, Mancini currently holds a record of 24-2 while tallying three pins, two major decisions and 10 tech falls and had a second place finish at the NCAA Central Regional tournament.

McIntire and James both make their debut on the First Team in their first year of wrestling for Mount Union. McIntire, with a season record of 29-6, only suffered one loss in the OAC, leads the team with 13 pins on the year and also took second place at regionals. James went 3-0 in OAC duals this season and is 18-1 on the year, leading him to take first place the regional tournament.

Also with first-time All-OAC honors are Wochna and Watson-Kirksey on the second team. Wochna is 22-14 in his first season with an OAC record of 4-2. Just behind McIntire, Wochna has 12 pins on the year, two of which led him to a second place finish at regionals. Watson-Kirksey went 5-1 in OAC and had an overall season record of 24-11, improving from last year's record of 11-17.

With his second All-OAC selection, Cotton's second team honors comes from a season record of 30-9, 5-1 in the OAC and a fourth place finish at regionals. Those 30 wins places Cotton 17th on the leaderboard of wins in a season. As for his career, Cotton is 104-34 making him the fifth for most career wins in Mount Union wrestling history.

As a team, the Raiders were 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the OAC in head coach Josh Malave's second season.

Mancini, Wochna, McIntire and James will all compete at the 2018 NCAA Division III National Championships in Cleveland, Ohio on March 9-10.
