CLEVELAND, Ohio -- No. 9 ranked Mount Union got two wrestlers in the championships semifinals at the 2018 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships at Public Auditorium in downtown Cleveland.
The Purple Raiders complied 21.5 points on the day and sit in 10th place. Thirteen-time national champion Wartburg (Iowa) leads after day one with 72 points.
Senior Nick Mancini (Boardman) scored a pair of shutout wins at 125 pounds while junior Jairod James (Bedford) scored 7-3 and 8-1 wins at 174 pounds to both advance to Saturday morning's semifinals and assure themselves of All-American honors.
Freshman Michael McIntire (Akron / St. Vincent-St. Mary) just missed out on All-American honors at 157 pounds with a close 8-6 loss in the consolation bracket. McIntire started the day with a win and a loss in the championship bracket and got a pin in his first match in the consolation bracket.
Freshman Nolan Wochna (Brecksville) dropped his first two matches in his first national championship appearance.
The meet concludes Saturday with semifinals at 10 a.m. with the finals slated for 7 p.m.
