Wrestling: Sweet Sixteen; #7 Mount Union Picks Up 16th Dual Win of Season

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- No. 7 ranked Mount Union scored a 34-13 win over Ohio Northern Saturday at the Ohio Athletic Conference Duals held at John Carroll in University Heights.

The win makes the Purple Raiders 16-3 in dual matches this season which leaves them one win from matching the single season win total of 17 by the 1996-97 team coached by hall of famer Don Montgomery.

The Purple Raiders scored wins in seven of the nine contested matched and picked up bonus points in four of those.

No. 2 nationally ranked Jordin James (Bedford) picked up a technical fall at 133 pounds and with forfeits at 125 and 141 Mount Union jumped out to a commanding 17-0 lead. James, a sophomore, now has 12 technical falls on the season.

Mount Union won the next three bouts picking up bonus points in each as sophomores Luke Hernandez (Nashport/Tri-Valley) and Michael McIntire (Wadsworth/St. Vincent-St. Mary) each had major decisions at 149 and 165 pounds while No. 10 ranked Antwon Pugh (Fairlawn / Copley) moved to 21-0 on the season with a first period pin.

The Raiders other win came from Landon Talbert (Salem/Crestview) with a 7-0 shutout at 197 pounds.

Mount Union next competes at the Pete Willson Invite held January 25-26 at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.
