Wrestling: James & Massey Win Titles at Mount Union Invite

ALLIANCE -- Mount Union junior Jordin James (Bedford) and sophomore David Massey (Cuyahoga Falls / Woodridge) won titles to lead the Purple Raiders at the Mount Union Invitational Saturday at Peterson Field House.

James won the 141 pound title in first action of the season winning four matches. He started with an 11-2 major decision win over Zach Layne of Bellarmine (Ky.), got a 9-5 win over Brendan Tenney of Lake Erie, had a 16-0 technical fall against Jacob Simpson from West Liberty (W.Va.). In the title match, he edged out Andrew Lieb of Lake Erie, 9-6.

Massey claimed the 133 pound crown with three wins. He got going wth a pin of Derrick Christie of Seton Hill (Pa.) then got a 3-1 win over Vincent Distefanis of Seton Hill (Pa.). In the championship match, he got by Seth Transue of Ohio Northern 5-4.

The Raiders had three other placers as senior Conner Homan (Loveland) was sixth at 184 pounds and the duo of sophomore Anthony Scurry (Warrensville Heights) and junior George Lassnick (Painesville / Lake Catholic) placed fourth and sixth respectively at 184 pounds.

Mount Union next wrestles an Ohio Athletic Conference dual against Muskingum, Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. in Timken Gymnasium.
