ALLIANCE – The No. 11 nationally ranked Mount Union wrestling team clinched at least a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference title with three wins Saturday at the OAC Duals in Peterson Field House.

It is the Purple Raiders 16th conference title and extends its conference dual win streak to 12 matches as they are 14-3 overall and 6-0 in the OAC.

The Purple Raiders won seven of the 10 contested matches against Ohio Northern (12-7, 1-3 OAC) and it was the middle of the Mount Union lineup that provided some breathing room in the match.

Nationally ranked wrestlers in No. 3 ranked Jordin James (Bedford) had a major decision at 141, No. 3 ranked Luke Hernandez (Nashport / Tri-Valley) at 149 got a tech fall and No. 7 ranked Antwon Pugh (Copley) got a pin at 157 pounds and each of those results and subsequent bonus points took the score of the match from 3-3 to 18-3.

The Raiders also got a pin from No. 10 ranked Grant Martin (Hartville / Lake) at 285 and wins from Seth Hayes (Rootstown) at 125, Conner Homan (Loveland) at 174 and George Lassnick (Painesville / Lake Catholic) at 184.

Mount Union rallied with wins in the final four weight classes against No. 22 ranked John Carroll (9-3, 2-2 OAC) for a 28-12 victory.

Trailing 12-10 after six matches, the Raiders got a pair of wins from Homan and Lassnick at 174 and 184 pounds before Landon Talbert (Salem / Crestview) and Martin put the match away with a pair of pins at 197 and 285.

Mount Union also got a major decision from No. 9 ranked David Massey (Cuyahoga Falls / Woodridge) at 133 and wins at 141 from James and at 149 from Hernandez.

Mount Union did get a 60-0 forfeit win over second year program Wilmington.

The Raiders next compete at the Pete Willson Invite next weekend at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.
