AUSTINTOWN -- Mount Union's wrestling team swept the Ohio Athletic Conference special awards to headline the 2020 All-OAC teams picked by the conference's head coaches.
Jordin James (Bedford) claimed John Summa OAC Wrestler of the Year honors as the junior has a 22-2 overall record that included a 6-0 mark against conference foes at 141 pounds. He is an All-OAC first team selection for a second straight season as a year ago he was earned the accolade at 133 pounds on his way to a national title and All-American honors. The award is named in honor of John Summa, who served as the head wrestling coach at Baldwin Wallace from 1948-80. While at BW, Summa compiled 201-140-1 overall record and went 105-38-1 in the Conference with six OAC championships.
Grant Martin (Hartville / Lake) had the OAC's most falls in the least amount of time honor as the senior pinned all six OAC wrestlers he faced in a combined time of 7:58 at 285 pounds. On the season, Martin is 24-3 overall with 15 pins as he was also named to the All-OAC first team.
In his fourth season as head coach, Josh Malave has led the Raiders to a perfect 7-0 mark this season in conference matches and Mount Union has won 13 consecutive OAC duals. Mount Union has a 17-3 overall record in duals and the Raiders are currently ranked No. 7 in the nation as Malave is the fifth Mount Union coach to win the conference award.
Joining James and Martin on the All-OAC first team is junior Luke Hernandez (Nashport / Tri-Valley) at 149 pounds. Hernandez is 20-5 this season and 5-1 in the OAC as it is his second straight year on the all-conference team after a second team selection a year ago.
Two more Raiders are on the All-OAC second team in sophomore David Massey (Cuyahoga Falls / Woodridge) at 133 pounds and senior Conner Homan (Loveland) at 174 pounds. Massey is on the second team for a second straight year has a team-best 32 wins on the season while Homan has 29 wins and was 5-0 in OAC matches.
Mount Union competes this week at the NCAA Central Regional at Adrian College in Adrian, Mich.
