Women’s Soccer: Purple Raiders Beat Utica 1-0 to Post Third Straight Shutout

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Mount Union women's soccer team stayed perfect on the 2013 season with a 1-0 shutout of Utica (N.Y.) Friday at the Fredonia State (N.Y.) Blue Devil Clarion Classic.

The Purple Raiders (3-0) are also perfect on the scoreboard as they have posted their third straight shutout.  It is the second time in three seasons that Mount Union has shutout its first three opponents in a season.

Sophomore Shannon Evans (Newbury/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) tallied the game's lone score in the 58th minute off a pass from Jessica Finkler (Brunswick/Holy Name). The Raiders outshot the Pioneers 32-6 on the day.

Junior Maria Favorite (Chesterland/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) notched her third straight shutout on the season, after only facing 2 shots.

Mount Union faces against tournament host Fredonia State tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
