Women's Soccer Makes It Three Straight Wins With Shutout at Marietta
MARIETTA, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's soccer team shutout Marietta, 4-0 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Tuesday in Marietta.
The Purple Raiders (9-2-1, 2-0 OAC) have now won three straight and six out of their last seven, while Marietta falls to 2-9 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.
Junior Allison Fouss (Lowell/Marietta) got Mount Union on the board early with an unassisted goal in the game's first minute and that 1-0 score would hold at the break.
Freshman Carolyn Balzano (Poland/Poland Seminary) would make it 2-0 in the 52nd minute as she put one in the upper right corner of the net. Balzano then assisted on a goal by sophomore Shannon Evans ((Newbury/ Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) in the 53rd minute before scoring her second goal of the game in the 79th minute for the 4-0 final.
In goal, junior Maria Favorite (Chesterland/ Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) had five saves as the Raider defense allowed Marietta only eight shots on the day. It was Favorite's sixth shutout on the season.
Mount Union continues a three-game OAC road swing Saturday night at Wilmington.
