Women's Soccer: Lanese Scores a Pair as Mount Union Moves Unbeaten Streak to Five

ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union sophomore Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia) scored a pair of goals to move up in the school record books and lead the Purple Raiders to a 3-0 win over Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup up Tuesday at Mount Union Stadium.

Lanese's two goals now gives her 16 on the season which tops the conference and is the second most in a single season at Mount Union. In addition, her now team-best 34 points this season is No. 4 on the school's single season list.

The win moves the Raiders to 7-6-2 overall and 3-1-2 in conference play while extending their unbeaten streak to five games which is the longest unbeaten streak for the team since 1993.

Muskingum falls to 4-11 overall and 1-5 in the OAC.

Freshman Brooke Schmidt (Massillon/Jackson) began the scoring in the 38th minute and Lanese followed suit just 28 seconds later. Lanese struck again in the 43rd minue and the Raiders led 3-0 at the break.

The second half of the game went scoreless, as junior Paige Freel (Niles/Niles McKinley) recorded four saves and her second shutout of the season.

Mount Union next plays an OAC match at Wilmington Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. in Wilmington, Ohio.
