Women's Soccer: Mount Union's Offense Shines Bright Against Defiance

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's soccer team (5-1) shut out Defiance (1-5) at home with a final score of 5-0 Wednesday night.

The Purple Raider offense shined bright as they outshot Defiance 20-3, converting on five of them and held possesion for most of the game.

Junior Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia) added two unassisted goals to up her season total to 10 on the year. Both goals came in the first half in the third and 13th minutes of the game respectively. To make the score 3-0 at halftime, sophomore Maggie O'Donnell (Avon/Avon) added her fifth goal of the year on an assist from fellow sophomore Lauren Beech (Hanoverton/United Local) in the 36th minute.

The scoring in the second half started in the 58th minute off the foot of senior Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary), her fifth on the year, on an assist from freshman Brittany McCauley (Ontatio/Ontario). Freshman Natalie Parsons (Millersburg/West Holmes) notched her first goal of the year on a penalty kick in the 79th minute to complete the scoring for Mount Union.

Senior goalkeeper Paige Freel (Niles/Niles McKinley)played all 90 minutes and faced three shots on goal.

The Raiders are back in action this Saturday, September 23 at 1 p.m. at Grove City.
