ADA, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's soccer team opened up Ohio Athletic Conference play with a 2-1 loss at Ohio Northern (8-1, 1-0).
The 2-0 deficit and minimal offensive opportunities showed to be too much for the Purple Raiders (6-3, 0-1) as they allowed 29 shots with 15 being on target to the Raiders four shots with three being on target.
The scoring was started by Ohio Northern's Rose Nienaber in the 40th minute which made the score 1-0 heading into halftime.
The second half score for Ohio Northern was in the 59th minute by Courtney Favazzo. Freshman Cortni Arp (Copley/Copley) scored her third goal of the year off an assist from Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia) to make the score 2-1 in the 64th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Paige Freel (Niles/Niles McKinley) played all 90 minutes once again in goal for the Raiders and faced 15 shots on goal.
Mount Union will be back on the pitch Wednesday, October 4th at OAC foe Baldwin Wallace at 7 p.m.
