ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's soccer team defeated Marietta (5-6-2, 1-3) by a score of 3-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at Mount Union Stadium on Tuesday night.
Senior Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St.Mary) scored her sixth and seventh goals of the year to lead the Purple Raiders (8-3-1,2-1-1) past the Pioneers.
Goedecke scored her first goal of the night in the 10th minute on an assist from sophomore Danielle Rohrman (Olney,Md./Sherwood) which was her first assist of the year. Just two minutes later, freshman Brittany McCauley (Ontario/Ontario) raced past two defenders and scored her second goal of the year on a cross from sophomore Lauren Beech (Hanoverton/United Local) to make the score 2-0 at halftime.
Goedecke added her second goal of the game in the 72nd minute to extend the lead to 3-0 before a goal later in the minute by Marietta's Katie Tomlin made the final score 3-1.
Senior Paige Freel (Niles/Niles McKinley) gave up just the one goal on three shots from Marietta on the night.
The Raiders will be back on the road this Saturday, October 14th at Capital at 1 p.m.
