UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Two goals off corner kicks from John Carroll helped end the season for Mount Union in a 3-1 loss in the first round of the Ohio Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament Monday night in University Heights.

The Purple Raiders end their season with a 10-7-1 overall record while John Carroll (11-5-2) advance to the semifinals to face No. 2 seed Capital.

The first half saw limited but good opportunites for both sides as they each had two shots on goal. John Carroll got on the board in the 13th minute off a goal from Justina Fortson on a corner kick from Jaclyn Audino. The Raiders had a great shot on goal by sophomore Maggie O'Donnell (Avon/Avon) but was punched over top by the Blue Streak goalkeeper, Rhianna Guarnera. Junior Alex Brown (Millersburg/West Holmes) scored her first goal of the year on a free kick from 35 yards out to knot the game at one heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Blue Streaks struck again on another corner kick. In the 71st minute, Rachel Braunegg was on the recieving end of the Jaclyn Audino corner kick to break the 1-1 tie. John Carroll added insurance in the 77th minute when Bailey Fischer found the back of the net.

Senior goalkeeper Paige Freel (Niles/Niles McKinley) played all 90 minutes for the Raiders while recording six saves on the evening.
