
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.—Mount Union's women's soccer team tallied their first win of the 2018 season as they defeated Westminster (Pa.) 1-0 Saturday, afternoon from New Wilmington, Pa.
Both teams could not gain the advantage early to start the match. At the 36th minute mark, sophomore Cortni Arp (Copley/Copley) fired a strike from 20 yards out to give the Raiders the 1-0 lead. Arp finished the contest with three shots. Despite the one goal deficit, Westminster outshot the Raiders in the half 8-6.
The Raider defense stifled the Titan attack in the second half only allowing one shot. Freshman Michelle Kissane (Amherst/Marion L. Steele) collected her first collegiate win on the day making five saves. Junior Lauren Beech (Hanoverton/United Local) tallied three shots while senior Alex Brown (Millersburg/West Holmes), junior Julia Krause (Mantua/Crestwood) and sophomore Brittany McCauley (Ontario/Ontario) finished with two.
Mount Union returns to Alliance, Ohio as they face Penn St.-Behrend for the home opener of the 2018 season on Wednesday, September 12 at 7 p.m.
