Women's Soccer: Mount Union Picked Fourth in OAC Preseason Coaches Poll

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio— The Mount Union women's soccer team was picked fourth in the Ohio Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll.

The Purple Raiders earned 54 votes, 12 points behind third place Capital (66 pts.). Ohio Northern edged out Otterbein by one point for the top two spots in the poll while each team got five first place votes.

In her ninth year, head coach Kelley Clark brings back eight letterwinners from a team that finished third in the conference last year.

Mount Union brings back a veteran squad with five seniors led by Lauren Beech (Hanoverton/United Local), who had a team-best seven goals and 16 points on her way to All-OAC second team honors.

The rest of the seniors include Abbie Andrews (Broadview Heights / Brecksville-Broadview Hts.), Maria DeFranco (Twinsburg), Julia Krause (Mantua/Crestwood) and Maggie O'Donnell (Avon).

The Raiders open their season hosting the Mount Union Kickoff Classic Saturday and Sunday, August 31 and September 1. Mount Union plays Wittenberg in the season opener Saturday, August 31 at 4 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
