Women's Soccer: Raiders Drop Season Opener

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union women's soccer team dropped its home and season opener to Wittenberg 2-1, Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

Wittenberg (1-0) scored a pair of goals in the fifth and 10th minutes to take a 2-0 lead but the Purple Raiders (0-1) cut the deficit in half as senior Lauren Beech (Salem / United Local) sent a ball through to junior Brit McCauley (Mansfield / Ontario) in the 11th minute.

Neither team scored the rest of the way as Wittenberg out-shot Mount Union, 17-8. Freshman Skyelar Mantz (Lodi / Cloverleaf) had nine saves in her collegiate debut for the Raiders.

Mount Union stays home to host Allegheny (Pa.) Sunday at 4 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
