Gabel Swims Her Way To OAC Swimmer Of The Week Honors
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - - Junior Courtney Gabel (Freemont/Freemont) was named Ohio Athletic Conference Swimmer Of The Week, for her performances in the Purple Raiders victories over Ohio Wesleyan (143-98) and at Baldwin Wallace (131-106).
This was the second swimmer of the week honors that Gabel has earned, as she was named OAC swimmer of the week for her performances in the victories at Malone (138-52), over Defiance (146-52) and Hiram (168-120).
In Friday's home meet against Ohio Wesleyan, Gabel took first place in the 50 yard freestyle (24.39), the 100 yard freestyle (54.33), and was part of the 400 freestyle relay (3:50.78) that finished first and was comprised of freshmen Alex Hamit (Massillon/Perry), Alisha Steele (Shelby/Shelby), and sophomore Carly Brown (Strongsville/Strongsville).
In Saturday afternoon's meet at Baldwin Wallace Gabel took first place in three events, the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.87), the 200 yard free (2:01.28), and swam leadoff in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:44.08) that placed first and had swimmers: Alisha Steele, Carly Brown, and Shelbey Mitchell (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls).
The Raiders next meet will be when they head down to Florida for winter training and head down to Melbourne, Florida to swim Florida Tech January 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
