MEET PREVIEW- Women's Swimming And Diving Hosts Ohio Northern Saturday

Mount Union's women's swimming and diving team returns home to host Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Ohio Northern Saturday in Hammond Natatorium at 1:00 p.m. 

The swimming and diving team is perfect on the year in dual meets (8-0) and is coming off of winter training in Florida which concluded with a 103-101 win against Florida Tech on Sunday.

Ohio Northern (3-4, 2-1) comes into the meet having split their last two duals meet against Defiance (Won 240-28) and Findlay (Lost194-104)

The Polar Bears finished first at last seasons OAC championships, and have finished in first place five out of the last six seasons.

Current OAC women's Swimmer of the Week, junior Shelbey Mitchell (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) earned first place honors in all three of her events, the 50 yard freestyle (26.09), the 100 yard backstroke (1:02.84) and swam the anchor leg in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:45.02) that was comprised of sophomore Carly Brown (Strongsville/Strongsville) and freshmen Kaitlyn Goldsmith (Galloway/Hilliard Bradley) and Lauren Lammlein (Uniontown/Hoover).  

Brown finished the 100 yard butterfly in third place with a time of 1:05.76.

Goldsmith finished second in the 100 yard freestyle (57.74) and third in the 200 yard freestyle (2:11.59). 

Lammlein finished the 200 yard freestyle (2:03.26) in second place and swam backstroke in the 200 yard medley relay that finished in fourth place and was comprised of freshmen Kristin Leitenberger (Madison/Perry) who swam breaststroke, Caroline Buehl (Middleburg Heights/Berea) who swam butterfly and Kelsey Jackson (Warren/Warren G. Harding) who swam freestyle. 

Leitenberger took fifth place in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:18.85) and sixth in the 50 yard freestyle (28.73). 

Buehl took fourth place in both the 50 yard freestyle (27.23) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:06.53). 

Jackson finished the 200 yard freestyle (2:17.26) in fifth place and took sixth in the 100 yard freestyle (1:02.90). 

Freshman Alex Hamit swam backstroke in the 200 yard medley relay that finished in second place and was comprised of junior Courtney Gabel (Freemont/Freemont Ross), Brown and freshman Rose Aldo (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield). 

Hamit also placed third in the 200 yard IM (2:28.52) and fourth in the 100 yard backstroke (1:09.87). 

Gabel finished both of her individual events in second place; the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.93) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:10.63). In the 100 breaststroke, Gabel nearly missed first place, as she was touched out Schelli Linz by a mere 0.04 seconds.

Brown finished the 100 yard butterfly in third place with a time of 1:05.76. 

Aldo took first place honors in the 200 yard IM (2:20.78) and finished the 500 yard freestyle (5:37.37) in third place. 

Senior Elizabeth Juran (Independence/Independence) finished the 100 yard backstroke (1:06.82) in second place and swam backstroke in the 200 yard medley relay (2:00.44) that finished in third and was comprised of senior Jocelyn Gaydos (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), sophomore Annie Holy (North Royalton/North Royalton) and freshman Jessica Swanson (Uniontown/Lake). 

Juran also swam the third leg in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:49.49) that finished in third place and was comprised of Gaydos, sophomore Wilma Levengood (New Philadelphia/New Philadelphia) and freshman Rebecca Oblak (Strongsville/Strongsville). 

Gaydos finished the 100 yard freestyle (1:01.77) in fifth place with a time of 1:01.77 and Holy took fourth in both of her individual events, the 200 yard IM (2:30.26) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:51.61). 

Swason took third in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:15.05) and swam the second leg in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:56.73) that finished in fourth place and was comprised of seniors Maddy Zalewski (New Kensington, Pa./Valley), Katy Alkire (Akron/Firestone) and freshman Jaime Eyssen (Brunswick/Brunswick). 

Levengood took fifth place in both of her individual events; the 50 yard freestyle (27.33) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:06.91). 

Alkire and Oblak took third (11:46.56) and fourth place (11:51.23) respectively in the longest event on the afternoon, the 1000 yard freestyle. 

Zalewski finished both of her individual events in fifth place; the 200 IM (2:31.58) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:52.61). 

Eyssen took fourth and sixth place respectively in her individual freestyle events, the 200 (2:16.00) and 500 (6:04.85) yard freestyles. 

Senior Megan McDonough (Cuyahoga Falls/Cuyahoga Falls) finished the 1000 yard freestyle (12:19.29) in fifth place and took sixth in the 100 yard backstroke (1:14.15). 

Freshman Jenna Belli (Toronto/Edison) took sixth place in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:22.00) and seventh in the 100 yard freestyle (1:06.14).
