Women’s Swimming And Diving travels to Westminster For Last Meet Of Season

Mount Union's 9 seniors, Katy Alkire, Rob Brocious, Ben Davies, Jocelyn Gaydos, Mike Greisl, Ian Perry, Megan McDonough and Maddy Zalewski

Mount Union's women's swimming and diving team (10-2) travels to New Wilmington, Pa to face Westminster for its last regular season meet Sunday at 1:00 p.m. 

The Purple Raiders are coming off a 147-65 victory over Penn State-Behrend last Friday.

Last Friday's meet was senior night where the five Purple Raiders women's swimming and diving seniors were honored, Katy Alkire (Akron/Firestone), Jocelyn Gaydos (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), Elizabeth Juran (Independence/Independence), Megan McDonough (Cuyahoga Falls/Cuyahoga Falls) and Maddy Zalewski (New Kensington, Pa./Valley). 

Westminster enters Sunday's meet with an 8-4 record and split their last two meets having beaten Saint Vincent (150-107) and lost to Grove City (169-119) in their most recent meet. 

The Raiders were quite impressive in the meet as they claimed the top three spots in eight events, the 1650 yard freestyle, 200 free, 50 free, 200 IM, 100 free, 200 back and the 500 yard freestyle. 

Zalewski finished first in the 1650 free, Alkire finished second and freshman Jaime Eyssen (Brunswick/Brunswick) finished third. 

Junior Courtney Gabel (Freemont/Freemont Ross) finished first in the 200 free, freshmen Rose Aldo (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) finished second and Kaitlyn Goldsmith (Galloway/Hilliard Bradley) finished third. 

Freshman Lauren Lammlein (Uniontown/Hoover) finished first in the 50 free, Juran finished second and freshman Kelsey Jackson (Warren/Warren G. Harding) took third. 

Freshmen Alex Hamit (Massillon/Perry) took first place in the 200 IM, Rebecca Oblak (Strongsville/Strongsville) finished second and Kristin Leitenberger (Madison/Perry) finished third. 

Zalewski took first place in the 200 butterfly and sophomores Wilma Levengood (New Philadelphia/New Philadelphia) and Carly Brown (Strongsville/Strongsvile) finished second and third respectively. 

Gabel finished the 100 freestyle in first place, freshman Caroline Buehl (Middleburg Heights/Berea) finished second and Gaydos finished third. 

Juran finished first in the 200 backstroke, Hamit took second and Eyssen finished third. 

Lammlein finished the 500 free in first place, Holy finished in second place and McDonough finished in third. 

The 400 yard medley relay (4:28.97) finished in first place and was comprised of Lammlein, Aldo, Holy and Brown. 

McDonough, Gaydos, Gabel and Juran comprised one of the 400 yard medley relays (4:30.50) which finished in second place and was comprised of McDonough, Gaydos, Gabel and Juran. 

Gaydos finished third in the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.04) and swam the first leg in an exhibition heat of the 400 freestyle relay (4:12.96) which was comprised of  Alkire who swam second leg in the relay, McDonough who swam third leg in the relay and Zalewski who swam the fourth and final leg in the relay. 

Buehl, Aldo, Brown and Holy all swam in an exhibition heat of the 400 free relay that finished with a time of 4:03.25. 

Hamit, Goldsmith, Leitenberger and freshman Jessica Swanson (Uniontown/Lake) each swam in an exhibition heat of the 400 medley relay that finished with a time of 4:32.78. 

Freshman diver Sara Fountain (North Ridgeville/Fairview) finished second in the first one meter diving event with a score of 110.40 and finished the second diving event on the evening with a score of 154.60. 

Sophomore Paige Pezzato (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) finished the first one meter diving with a score of 81.15. 

Freshman Jenna Belli (Toronto/Edison) swam in an exhibition heat of the 200 yard breaststroke and finished with a time of 2:49.08.
