Women's Swimming And Diving Falls To Westminster In Regular Season Finale

NEW WILMINGTON, Pennsylvania - - Mount Union's women's swimming and diving team fell 180-111 to Wilmington in its regular season finale Saturday afternoon. 

With the win, Westminster improves to 9-4 overall on the season, while Mount Union falls to 10-3. 

The Purple Raiders took first place honors in six total events (four individuals and two relays). 

Junior Courtney Gabel (Freemont/Freemont) had quite an impressive meet as she swam in four events for points all of which she finished in first place. 

Gabel finished first in the 50 freestyle (24.83), 100 freestyle (55.67),  200 yard freestyle (2:01.04) and swam breaststroke in the 200 medley relay (1:53.42) which was comprised of junior Shelbey Mitchell (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) who swam backstroke, sophomore Carly Brown (Strongsville/Strongsville) who swam butterfly and freshman Kaitlyn Goldsmith (Galloway/Hilliard Bradley) who swam freestyle. 

Mitchell swam to a first place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:01.14) and swam the third leg in the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.88) that finished in first place and was comprised of freshmen Lauren Lammlein (Uniontown/Hoover) who swam lead off in the relay,  Alisha Steele (Shelby/Shelby) who swam second and Goldsmith who swam third in the relay. 

The Raiders next meet will be when they swam at the OAC championships February 14-16 in Akron, Ohio.
