Women's Swimming and Diving: Mount Union Defeats Ohio Northern for First Time Since 2001-02 Season

ADA, Ohio- Mount Union's women's swimming and diving team defeated Ohio Northern 174-125, for the first time since the 2001-2002 season.

Leading the way for the Purple Raiders were Dana Lautenschleger (Solon/Solon) and Megan Leibensperger (Uniontown/Green) who each won three events.

Both Lautenschleger and Leibensperger each were a part of the 800 yard freestyle relay win with a time of 8:24.97. Also included in the relay was Rebecca Oblak (Strongsville/Strongsville) and Rose Aldo (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield).

Lautenschleger also won the 200 yard freestyle (2:00.25) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:11.31) while Leibensperger won the 1000 yard freestyle (11:21.10) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:33.35).

Others placing first in their events were Gina Saxon (Hudson/Hudson) and Jessica Hirsh (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park). Saxon won the 100 yard breaststroke (1:40.46) and the 200 yard butterfly (2:31.75) while Hirsh won the 200 yard butterfly (2:25.80) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:02.76).

In diving action, Sarah Fountain (North Ridgeville/Fairview) won the 1 meter dive with a score of 168.50 and the 3 meter dive with a score of 169.60.

Mount Union hosts Wilmington next Saturday January, 23 at 1:00 p.m.
