Women's Swimming and Diving: Lautenschleger Breaks OAC Record

OAC Championship

AKRON, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's swimming and diving team finished day one of the Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship meet in third place Thursday at the University of Akron.

Mount Union scored 185 points while John Carroll is in second place with 186 and Ohio Northern is placed first with 188 points.  

The Purple Raiders were paced by Dana Lautenschleger (Solon/Solon) broke her own school and OAC record in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.82 which is also an NCAA B cut.

Megan Leibensperger (Uniontown/Green) took second behind Lautenschleger in the 500 free (5:14.70) along with Rebecca Oblak (Strongsville/Strongsville) taking third (5:16.26).

In relay action, Alex Hamit (Massillon/Massillon Perry), Rose Aldo (Mansfield, Mass./ Mansfield), Jenna Kassinger (Silver Lake/Cuyahoga Falls) and Ann Zielasko (Silver Lake/Akron Hoban) placed third in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.55.

Lautenschleger, Aldo, Caroline Buehl (Middleburg Heights/Berea), and Peyton Kranz (Berea/Berea) also came in third place in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 4:00.58.

The top three finishers in individual events and the top two relay teams in each event earn All-OAC conference honors.

Competition continues Friday, Feb. 19 with preliminaries at 10 am followed by the finals at 6 pm at the University of Akron.
