Women's Swimming: Lautenschleger's Day 1 at NCAA Swimming Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Mount Union's sophomore swimmer Dana Lautenschleger (Solon/Solon) competed in her first day of the NCAA Division III Swimming Championships.

Lautenschleger has qualified for the NCAA Swimming Championships in both the 500 freestyle and 1650 freestyle which will be held March 16-19 at the Greensboro Aquatics Center in Greensboro, N.C.

Lautenschleger is finished 22nd in the 500 freestyle (4:59.66) this morning in the preliminaries. Lautenschleger will compete in the 1650 freestyle (17:12.83) on Saturday, March 19.

In both events she set new school and Ohio Athletic Conference records on her way to OAC Women's Swimmer of the Year honors leading the Purple Raiders to their second straight team title.

Lautenschleger will also compete in the 200 freestyle on March 17. She is seeded 43rd in the event with a school-record time of 1:54.38.

A total of 527 participants (479 swimmers and 48 divers) will compete in the championships.

She is the lone female representative from the OAC. Mount Union's Tyler Moore (Amherst/Steele) swam in the meet a year ago and Lautenschleger is the first Raider female qualifier since diver Mary Vallinger in 2009.

The preliminaries will begin each day at 10 a.m. with the finals starting at 6 p.m. each night.

The top eight placers in each event earn All-America honors and placers 9-16 earn Honorable Mention All-America accolades.
