Women's Swimming and Diving: Raiders in Second Place After First Day of OAC Championships; School Record Broken

2017 Mount Union's Women's Placers

OAC Championship

AKRON, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's swimming and diving team finished day one of the Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship meet in second place Thursday at the University of Akron.

Mount Union scored 171 points while John Carroll is in first place with 225 and Ohio Northern is placed third with 132 points.  

The Purple Raiders were paced by Dana Lautenschleger (Solon/Solon) who placed first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:57.33, which is the second person in conference history to win this event at least three times.  Lautenschleger's time of 4:57.33 is also an NCAA B cut.

Lauren Oktavec (Brunswick/Brunswick) took second behind Lautenschleger in the 500 yard freestyle (5:16.24) as Megan Leibensperger (Uniontown/Green) placed third (5:16.64).

In relay action, Lautenschleger, Regina Saxon (Hudson/Hudson), Amy Strawser (Strongsville/Strongsville) and Elise Pichola (Rocky River/Rocky River) broke a school record placing second in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 4:00.24.

The top three finishers in individual events and the top two relay teams in each event earn All-OAC conference honors.

Competition continues Friday, Feb. 17 with preliminaries at 10 am followed by the finals at 6 pm at the University of Akron.
