Women's Swimming and Diving: Raiders in Second Place After Day One of the OAC Championships

OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's swimming and diving team holds second place with a score of 172 after day one of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron. 

The Purple Raiders trail only John Carroll (247.5) and are ahead of third place Baldwin Wallace (144), fourth place Ohio Northern (141.5) and fifth place Wilmington (88).

The Purple Raiders were led by senior Dana Lautenschleger who posted a win in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:58.22 which also qualifies as an NCAA B-Cut. The win marks her fourth consecutive conference championship in the event.

Lautenschleger was also a member of the 400-yard medley relay team with fellow senior Jessica Hirsh (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), and juniors Sarah Gonda (Boardman) and Regina Saxon (Hudson) who finished second with a time of 3:58.62 which broke the school record of 4:00.24. 

Also earning All-OAC honors was senior Megan Leibensperger (Uniontown/Green) who finished in third place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:15.75. 

The top three finishers in individual events and the top two relay teams in each event earn All-OAC conference honors.

Competition continues Friday, Feb. 16 with preliminaries at 10 am followed by the finals at 6 pm at the University of Akron.
