ALLIANCE, Ohio -- No. 4 seed Mount Union scored a 5-1 win over No. 5 seed Baldwin Wallace in the first round of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament Tuesday at the Whitehill Tennis Courts in Alliance.
The Purple Raiders improve to 13-6 and advance to Friday's semifinals where they will face top-seeded John Carroll at the Linder Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
Another one of those doubles wins came at No. 1 from Gretchen Groves (Louisville) and Kayla Johnston (Ashtabula/Lakeside) then Johnson made it 4-0 when she defeated BW's Ashtyn Morris, 6-2 and 6-1, to record her career 100th win. Johnston, a senior, is one of six in Mount Union history with 100-plus combined singles and doubles career wins.
Baldwin Wallace's lone point came from Kelly Peskura at No. 6 singles and the Yellow Jackets finished their season at 11-10.
