Mount Union Wins OAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship; Second Title in School History First Since 1995
ALLIANCE, Ohio--Mount Union women's track and field team won the
championship at the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Track and Field
Championships at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance.
The Purple Raiders tallied 130 points which was 9.5 better than
second place Marietta.
In his first year as head women's coach Kevin Lucas led the Purple
Raiders to their second conference team title in school history and
first since 1995 to garner OAC Coaching Staff of the Year
honors.
Sophomore Aubree
Jones (Falconer, NY/Falconer) was named OAC Field Athlete of
the Meet as she won both the javelin (126-07) and discus (134-05)
while placing third in the shot put (38-11).
A pair of seniors also got wins for Mount Union fron Heather
Stalter (Marietta/Marietta) in 10000 meters (40:52.51) and Aubrey
Loy (Canton/Massillon Jackson) in the long jump (18-5) and
triple jump (37-1).
Loy was also part of a third place 4x100 relay team (49.44) along
with freshmen Samara
Sutton (Youngstown/Boardman), Daryn
Herman (Fairview Park/Fairview) and Mary
Mahoney (Ashtabula/St John-St. Paul) that got All-OAC
honors.
Mahoney also had a very strong meet as she also got all-conference
honors with a second in the 400 meters (56.68) and a third in the
200 meters (25.46).
Senior Rachel
Perry (Westerville/Westerville North) also went all-conference
in three events as she placed second in the 3,000 meter
steeplechase (11:34.53) and third in both the 5,000 (18:34.21) and
10000 meters (41:09.62).
Junior Annie
Patton (Darlington, PA/Blackhawk) and sophomore Kelsey
Shonk (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) also placed third in the shot
put (39-4.5) and discus (130-10) respectively to earn All-OAC
honors.
A handful of athletes will try to qualify for the NCAA
Championships by competing in some last chance meets starting
Friday at The University of Toledo.
