DELAWARE, Ohio -- Mount Union sophomore Mary Mahoney (Ashtabula/St. John-St. Paul) set an NCAA Provisional mark and won two events to lead the Purple Raiders to a second place finish Saturday at the Ohio Wesleyan Quad Meet in Delaware, Ohio.
Mahoney won the 400 meters and posted a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 58.44. She also sprinted to a victory in the 200 meters with a time of 26.84.
The Raiders other event win came in the 4x400 meter relay as sophomores Jenny Gamertsfelder (Hudson/Hudson) and Daryn Herman (Fairview Park/Fairview) along with freshmen Alexis Campbell (St. Clairsville/St. Clairsville) and Emily Mazzoferri (Canton/GlenOak) posted a time of 4:16.54.
Mazzoferi also took third place in the 800 meters (2:28.62).
Other top performances included freshman Rachel Smith (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) with a second in the 3000 meters (11:19.60), freshman Mary Catherine Powers (Seven Hills/Parma Hts. Holy Name) placed third in the 1 mile run (5:27.19) then teamed up with fellow freshman Katie Barnes (Tallmadge/Tallmadge), senior Jenna Balazs (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) and junior Lesley Sherwood (Strongsville/Strongsville) finished second in the distance medley relay (14:09.74).
In total, the Raiders tallied 56.0 points which them 29.5 points behind meet host Ohio Wesleyan (85.5).
Mount Union will run next Saturday at the Ohio Athletic Conference Relay Meet at Capital University in Columbus.
