Women's Indoor Track & Field Picked to Win OAC Title

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's indoor track and field team was picked to win the Ohio Athletic Conference title in the OAC Coaches Poll released today.

The Purple Raiders picked up six first place votes and 78 total points while defending conference champion Baldwin-Wallace is in second with four first place votes and 70 points.

Sophomores Taylor Ruffing (Attica/Seneca East) and Lisa Brasdovich (Columbia Station/Columbia) are two returning members of the conference champion 4x200 meter relay team.

Senior Kelsey Shonk (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) who placed second in the shot put and sophomore Julianne Liberati (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) who was third in the triple jump are the other two all-conference returners.

The Raider women's team has won the last two OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and contributors from those teams in junior sprinter Mary Mahoney (Ashtabula/St. John-St. Paul), senior thrower  Aubree Jones (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer) and sophomore middle distance runner Emily Mazzaferri (Canton/GlenOak) are among those looking to make an impact indoors.

Mount Union competes Saturday (Jan. 21) at the Lake Erie Open at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

The 2012 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championship meet is Feb. 24-25 at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.
