Women's Track & Field: Eight Winners For Raiders at SPIRE Open; Mahoney Sets New Record in 60m
GENEVA, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's indoor track and field team won eight events at the SPIRE Open held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Senior Mary Mahoney (Ashtabula/St. John & St. Paul) bested her own school-record in winning the 60m dash with a time of 7.75.
Mahoney also combined with sophomore Brooke Benner (Orrville/Orrville) with juniors Caitlin Goggin (Mantua/Crestwood) and Emily Mazzaferri (Canton/GlenOak) to win the distance medley relay (12:55.22).
Benner also won the 1-mile run with a time of 5:17.87
Freshman Veronica Clutter (Geneva/Geneva) won the long jump (16-2.5) and was third in the 200 meters (26.18).
Other individual event winners included sophomore Haley Buzulencia (Warren/Howland) won the 3000 meters (10:52.04), junior Julianne Liberati (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) in the triple jump (33-11.5) and Carly Stock (Cuyahoga Heights/Cuyahoga Heights) in the shot put (38-11).
The 4x400 relay team (4:11.07) of sophomore Courtney Reese (Cleveland/Cornerstone Christian), senior Daryn Herman (Fairview Park/Fairview), freshman Marrianna White (Macedonia/Nordonia) and Lisa Brasdovich (Columbia Station/Columbia) rounded out the event winners.
A group of Raiders made third place finishes in junior Taylor Ruffing (Attica/Seneca East) in the 60m hurdles, senior Corinne Midlik (Medina/Medina) in the 800 meters (2:33.85) and freshman Brooke Rayokovich (Cuyahoga Heights/Cuyahoga Heights) in the pole vault.
Mount Union comes home next weekend to host the Ohio Athletic Conference Split Meet Friday, Jan. 25 in the Peterson Fieldhouse on campus.
