KENT, Ohio -- Mount Union sophomore Brooke Benner (Orrville/Orrville) set a new school-record in the 1000 meters Saturday at the Kent State Tune-Up Indoor Track & Field Open.
Benner posted a time of 3:01.91 to finish fourth in the event and bested the previous record of 3:03.84 set of by Jen Farrell in 2006.
A pair of season bests were the other top performances for the No. 17 ranked Purple Raiders.
The 4x400 meter relay team of sophomore Courtney Reese (Cleveland/Cornerstone Christian), senior Daryn Herman (Fairview Park/Fairview), junior Emily Mazzaferri (Canton/GlenOak) and senior Mary Mahoney (Ashtabula/St. John-St. Paul) finished second and posted the sixth best time in the nation at 3:52.16.
Freshman Veronica Clutter (Geneva/Geneva) had a season-best mark of 17-9.5 in the long jump and finished fourth.
The meet was the final tune-up before next weekend's Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at Ohio Northern University in Ada.
