#19 Women's Track & Field First After Day One of OAC Championships; Three Records & One Title Headline Day

ADA, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's track and field team, ranked No. 19 in the nation, set three records and won one event to sit in first place after the first day of the 2013 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at Ohio Northern University in Ada.

Five events went final on day one and the defending champion Purple Raiders amassed 42 points which is 13 ahead of second place Otterbein.  Marietta is in third with 27, Ohio Northern is in fourth with 22 while Muskingum rounds out the top five with 18 points.

Freshman Veronica Clutter (Geneva/Geneva) claimed a win as she won the long jump title with a mark of 18-1.

Senior Mary Mahoney (Ashtabula/St. John-St. Paul) finished in the top spot in qualifying in two events as she set a conference record in the 60 meter dash at 7.78 while setting a school-record and was just .01 off a conference record in the 200 meters with a time of 25.01.

Another school record was set in the distance medley relay as the team of junior Emily Mazzaferri (Canton/GlenOak), senior Daryn Herman (Fairview Park/Fairview), freshman Caitlin Nagy (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) and sophomore Brooke Benner (Orrville/Orrville) placed second and earned all-conference honors with a time of 12:21.99.

The top three finishers in every event earn all-conference honors.

Two other all-conference performances happened on day one as sophomore Carly Stock (Cuyahoga Heights/Cuyahoga Heights) placed third in the weight throw (47-10.5) and freshman Brooke Rayokovich (Cuyahoga Heights/Cuyahoga Heights) placed third in the pole vault (10-4.25). 

The meet continues tomorrow at 10 am.
