#19 Mount Union Sends Four to NCAA Women's Track & Field Championships

Nationally ranked No. 19 Mount Union will have four student-athletes competing at the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships this Friday and Saturday at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.

Five-time All-American senior Mary Mahoney (Ashtabula/St. John-St. Paul) has qualified in three events and will lead the way for a Purple Raiders team that finished seventh a year ago.

Mahoney is the top seed in the 400 meters (preliminaries 5:55 pm Friday), which she was second in the nation last year at the NCAA Championships.

She is the 10th seed in the 60 meter dash (preliminaries 6:20 pm Friday) and also is part of the 4x400 meter relay team with fellow senior Daryn Herman (Fairview Park/Fairview), junior Emily Mazzaferri (Canton/GlenOak) and Courtney Reese (Cleveland/Cornerstone Christian) that is ranked 10th in the nation and will run Saturday at 5:20 pm.

This same 4x400 relay team finished fourth and claimed All-American honors at last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships while Mahoney, Herman and Mazzaferri finished fourth a year ago in the 4x400 relay to earn All-American honors at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships.

The top eight finishers in each event will earn All-American honors.
