Women's Track & Field: Mount Union's Mahoney Wins 400 Meter Title With Record Time at NCAA Championships
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Mount Union senior Mary Mahoney (Ashtabula/St. John-St. Paul) won the national title in 400 meters with an NCAA Division III record time of 55.21 at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.
Mahoney, who a year ago finished second in the event at the indoor national championships and won the 200 meter title at the outdoor national championships, claimed her second national title and seventh All-American honor with the fastest time ran in NCAA Division III for the entire year.
Mahoney added her eighth All-American honor as she ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 meter relay with teammates in senior Daryn Herman (Fairview Park/Fairview), junior Emily Mazzaferri (Canton/GlenOak) and Courtney Reese(Cleveland/Cornerstone Christian) that finished in third place with a new school record time of 3:51.42.
Mount Union tallied 16 points to finish tied for ninth in the nation and gave the Purple Raiders their second straight top-10 finish after going seventh in 2012.
