Mount Union Women's Track & Field Picked to Win Fourth Straight Title
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's track and field team has been tabbed as the favorites to make it four-straight Ohio Athletic Conference championships in the OAC Coaches Preseason Poll released today.
The Purple Raiders claimed seven of nine first place votes and 59 points in the top spot in the poll.
Ohio Northern is in second place with 50 points while the other two first place votes are with third place John Carroll (49 points). Otterbein (46 points) and Capital (32 points) make up the rest of the top five.
A year ago the Purple Raiders claimed their fourth overall and third-straight OAC title under now fourth year women's head coach Kevin Lucas.
Senior Mary Mahoney (Ashtabula/St John-St. Paul) won both the 200 and 400 meter conference titles a year ago and was named OAC Sprint Athlete of the Meet for the second-straight year. She would go on to win the national title in the 200 meters.
Junior Emily Mazzaferri (Canton/GlenOak) is also the defending conference champion in the 800 meters.
For the third time in four years, the OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance on April 26-27.
