Benner Sets School Record as #16 Women's Track & Field Wins OAC Gold Meet
MARIETTA, Ohio -- Mount Union sophomore Brooke Benner (Orrville/Orrville) set a new school record in the 1500 meters to headline the Purple Raiders team victory at the Ohio Athletic Conference Gold Meet Saturday in Marietta.
Benner posted a time of 4:44.64 in the 1500 to win the event and was one of five total events the Raiders won at the meet.
Senior Mary Mahoney (Ashtabula/St. John-St. Paul) won the 400 meters and posted the best time in NCAA Division III so far this season with a time of 55.98.
Mahoney and Benner were also part of the 4x800 meter relay team with junior Emily Mazzaferri (Canton/GlenOak) and freshman Caitlin Nagy (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) that won with a time of 9:28.04.
Another relay team also claimed a victory as the 4x100 meter team of senior Daryn Herman (Fairview Park/Fairview), junior Lisa Brasdovich (Columbia Station/Columbia), sophomore Taylor Coghlan (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) and freshman Veronica Clutter (Geneva/Geneva) with a time of 49.32.
Sophomore Carly Stock (Cuyahoga Heights/Cuyahoga Heights) rounded out the event winners with a win in the shot put (40-5).
Mount Union, ranked No. 16 in the nation, tallied 182 points which was 41 points clear of second place Baldwin Wallace in the meet that featured half of the conference's 10 teams.
