Two Titles on Day One of OAC Championships For Women's Track & Field; Raiders in First Place

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's track & field team won two of six events contested and lead the team standings after day one of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance.

The Purple Raiders are trying to win their fourth-straight conference title and with 48 points have a 13-point lead over Heidelberg.  Wilmington is in third place with 29 points while Otterbein and Marietta are tied in fourth place each with 27 points.

The top three finishes in every event garner All-OAC honors.

The two victories came from sophomore Maya Brown (Tiffin/Columbian), who claimed the conference title in the javelin with a mark of 128-4, and the women's 4x800 meter relay team of freshman Caitlin Nagy (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy), sophomores Courtney Reese (Cleveland/Cornerstone Christian) and Brooke Benner (Orrville/Orrville) and junior Emily Mazzaferri (Canton/GlenOak) with a time of 9:20.15.

A second place finish was had by freshman Brooke Rayokovich (Cuyahoga Heights/Cuyahoga Heights) in the pole vault (10-7).

Senior Mary Mahoney (Ashtabula/St. John-St. Paul) ran the top times in the preliminaries of the 200 meters at 24.77 and in the 400 meters with a new conference record time of 55.27.

Fellow senior Daryn Herman (Fairview Park/Fairview) had the top time in the preliminaries of the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.23).

Day two of the meet begins at 10 am Saturday.
