ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union men's track and field opened the indoor portion of the 2016-17 season hosting the Toy Drive Invite Saturday at Peterson Fieldhouse.
The Purple Raiders set a new school record and won five events at the meet while collecting toys for charity from fans and participating teams.
The new school record came in the women's 4x800 meter relay as senior Marisa Rinaldi (Tallmadge/Tallmadge), junior Megan Loetz (Chardon/Chardon) with freshmen Sarah Mason (Alliance/Marlington) and Aamirah Howard (Akron/Woodridge) beat a 10-year old mark with a time of 10:13.05.
Howard also claimed a win in the 500 meters (1:24.43).
The other event wins came from freshman Daijana Johnson (Alliance/Alliance) in the 60 meter dash (7.93), junior Steph Donley (Carrollton/Carrollton) in the 200 meters (26.25) and senior Courtney Berish (Mantua/Crestwood) in the weight throw (50-0.75).
Mount Union next competes at the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Split Meet on January 20, 2017.
