BEREA, Ohio – Mount Union's women's indoor track and field team won its sixth straight and seventh overall team title Saturday at the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at Baldwin Wallace in Berea.
The Purple Raiders used their depth in the sprints to run past Ohio Northern by a score of 161-152 for the team title.
Two of those sprinters -- junior Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) and Marisa Rinaldi (Tallmadge/Tallmadge) were both named Fred Raizk OAC Outstanding Sprint Athletes of the Meet.
In the 55 meter dash, Mount Union swept the top three spots as Goedecke won the event followed by freshmen Daijana Johnson (Alliance/Alliance) and Rachel Adams (Louisville/St. Thomas Aquinas).
Adams and Goedecke went 1-2 in the 200 meters followed by Rinaldi in third place then Johnson was fifth and junior Steph Donley (Carrollton/Carrollton) was fifth as the Raiders claimed five of the eight scoring places in the event.
Rinaldi also won the title in the 400 meters and teamed with Donley, Goedecke and junior Dana Crofoot (Perry/Perry) to set a conference record in winning the 4x200 meter relay.
Johnson also won the long jump and had all-conference (top three) finishes in three events and totaled a team-best 22 points for the weekend.
Sophomore Hilary Reigle (Madison/Madison) was all-conference with a second in the 1000 meters and a third in the 3,000 meters to go along with a fifth in the mile to score 18 points for the Raiders.
Senior Courtney Berish (Mantua/Crestwood) placed second in the weight throw and set a school-record in the process with a mark of 52-feet, 11-inches.
Mount Union competes next week at the NCAA Last Chance Meet at Ohio Northern before going to the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships March 10-11 at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
