ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's women's track and field team won three events, posted a school record mark along with NCAA provisional marks Saturday at the John Homon Open at Mount Union Stadium.
Courtney Berish (Mantua/Crestwood) won the hammer throw as the senior bested her own school record with a mark of 165-feet, 0.25-inches. The mark is currently 11th-best in NCAA Division III this season.
Freshman Rachael Adams (Louisville/St. Thomas Aquinas) won the 200 meters in a season-best time of 25.20 which is ninth best in the nation and she also placed third in the 100 meters with a season-best time of 12.10 that stands seventh in the nation.
In the 100, Adams was right behind fellow freshman Daijana Johnson (Alliance/Alliance), who won the event with a season-best time of 12.05 that puts her sixth nationally in the event.
Adams was also part of a 4x400 meter relay team with senior Marisa Rinaldi (Tallmadge/Tallmadge), junior Dana Crofoot (Perry/Perry) and freshman Sarah Mason (Alliance/Marlington) that won the event with a season-best time of 3:57.86 and sit 10th nationally in the event.
Rinaldi also second in the 400 meters (57.90) while freshmen Devin Kring (Alliance/Louisville) (1:06.70) and Aamirah Howard (Akron/Woodridge) (1:07.40) who went 2-3 in the 400 meter hurdles respectively to round out the top performances.
The meet is named for former Mount Union head cross country and track and field coach John Homon, who won a combined 51 Ohio Athletic Conference cross country and track and field championships over his 31-year career with the Raiders (1979-2010).
Mount Union competes next Saturday at both the Walsh Invitational in North Canton, Ohio and the Bucknell Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pa.
