Women's Track and Field: Johnson Wins Long Jump Title; Raiders Third After Day One at OAC Track Championships

ADA, Ohio – Mount Union's women's track and field team stands in third place after the first day of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships Friday at Ohio Northern University in Ada.

The Purple Raiders have 45.5 points which is 13 points behind John Carroll. Ohio Northern leads the meet with 66 points.

Freshman Alexianna Johnson (Dover) won the long jump title with a season-best mark of 18-feet, 5.25-inches which also provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Championships as she currently sits 16th in the nation.

The Raiders other all-conference performances on the day came from sophomore Katie Durisin (Painesville / Riverside) who placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a career-best time of 11:11.39 and the 4x800 meter relay team of sophomore Sarah Mason (Alliance / Marlington), junior Emily Henson (Hamilton / Badin), freshman Brittany McCauley (Mansfield / Ontario) and junior Toni Beuck (Cleveland / Villa Angela-St. Joseph) with a time of 9:25.41

In running event preliminaries, sophomore Rachael Adams (Louisville / St. Thomas Aquinas) ran the top times in the 100 and 200 meters. Senior Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls / St. Vincent-St. Mary) and sophomore Daijana Johnson (Alliance) also both made the finals in the 100 meters with the third and fourth qualifying times respectively.

Sophomore Aamirah Howard (Akron / Woodridge) qualified in two events as she was second in the 100 meter hurdles and third in the 400 meter hurdles.

The meet concludes on Saturday.
