Women's Track and Field: Raiders Miss OAC Title By Three Points; Mount Union Second For Third Year in Row

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's track and field team was edged out by three points and placed second at the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships Saturday at Otterbein University.

The Purple Raiders tallied 171 points which left them just three behind John Carroll at 174 as Mount Union placed second for a third year in a row.

The freshman trio of Maryonna Cathey(New London), Michaelina Terranova (North Jackson / Jackson-Milton) and Bri Aveni (Geneva) contributed to all three event wins for the Raiders.

Cathey and Terranova went 1-2 iin the 400 meter hurdles then combined with sophomore Cortni Arp (Copley) and junior Sarah Mason (Alliance / Marlington) to win the 4x400 meter relay.

Aveni won the pole vault with a school record mark of 12-feet, 4-inches.

Arp and Mason both posted second place finishes in the 400 meters and 800 meters respectively while Mason also combined with seniors Hilary Reigle (Madison) and Toni Beuck (Cleveland / VASJ), sophomore Emily Schutt (Painesville / Riverside) to place second in the 4x800 meter relay.

Reigle also got all-conference finishes (top three) with a second in the 5,000 meters and a third in the 1500 meters.

Three other second places came from junior Daijana Johnson (Alliance), freshman Kennedy Gibbins (Navarre / Fairless) in the high jump and Rhiannon Petrisko (Steubenville) in the javelin.

Two more third place finishes were had by Katie Durisin (Painesville / Riverside) in the 3000 meter steeplechase and Aubrey Fruchey (Columbus Grove) in the hammer throw.
