Women's Track and Field: Mount Union's Mason Breaks Record; First After First Day of OAC Championships

Marietta, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's track and field team broke a school record and OAC record and had mulitple All-conference finishes after day one of the 2020 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships Friday at Marietta College in Marietta.

Mount Union grabbed 81 points in the seven events contested on day one which leaves them 23.50 points ahead of second place Otterbein. 

Senior Sarah Mason (Alliance / Marlington) broke the school that MAry Mohoney held for seven years and OAC record that stood for eight years in the 500 in a winning time of 1:16.59

The Purple Raiders got four more all-conference awards (top three preformers) with sophomores Bri Aveni (Geneva) and Emily Phillips (Chardon) placing second and third in the pole vault.

Junior Cortni Arp (Copley) finished third led four other ladies to place in the 400.

The last event of the night was the distance medley relay where Mason, junior Brit McCauley (Ontairo), and freshmen Julia Henderson (Twinsburg) and Megan Wertz (Canton / Glen OAk) took second overall.


There were two prelims today in the 55-meter hurdles where junior Sabrina Stocker (Madison) qualified first.

The other prelim was the 55-meter dash where freshman Kenadee Wayt (Wheeling W.V., / Wheeling Central Catholic) qualified second to tomorrows final. 

The final day of the meet begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.
