Volleyball Sweeps Marietta in OAC Tournament; Raiders Play Ohio Northern Friday at Heidelberg
(ALLIANCE, OH)--Second-seeded Mount Union scored a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-17) sweep of seventh-seeded Marietta in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament Tuesday at The McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
Mount Union got 10 kills and 17 digs from All-American senior Melissa Mahnke (North Royalton/North Royalton), 18 assists from Julie Radigan (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) and 17 digs from Sarah Dean (Strongsville/Walsh Jesuit) to lead the way.
Becca Holzworth had 17 digs, Ally Jenkins had 22 assists and 12 digs and Jessie Blackley had eight kills for Marietta as the Pioneers finish their season with an 18-12 record.
The Raiders move to 22-5 overall and advance to the semifinals against No. 3 seed Ohio Northern, as the Polar Bears swept No. 6 seed John Carroll, Friday at 5 pm at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio.
Top seeded Heidelberg, a 3-0 winner over No. 8 seed Muskingum, plays No. 4 seed Otterbein, a 3-2 win over No. 5 Capital, in the other semifinal at 7 pm.
The championship game is slated for Saturday at 2 pm in Tiffin.
