Mount Union Announces 2011 Volleyball Schedule

ALLIANCE, Ohio --- A home tournament and six other home dates -- including five of those against Ohio Athletic Conference teams -- highlight the 2011 Mount Union volleyball schedule.

After a one-year absense, the Mount Union Invitational returns to start the season on Sept. 2-3.  Joining the Purple Raiders in the field is nationally ranked Hope (Mich.) along with Mt. St. Joseph, St. Mary's (Ind.) and local rivals Case Western Reserve, Allegheny (Pa.) and Geneva (Pa.). 

The home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7 pm against Malone at The McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex (The MAAC) on campus.

Tournament trips to Nazareth (Rochester, N.Y.), Hiram and Carnegie Mellon (Pittsburgh, Pa.) all take place before the OAC slate opens with home matches against Wilmington on Sept. 24 (5 pm) and Marietta on Sept. 27 (7 pm).

An OAC match at Ohio Northern (Oct. 1) and a tri-match at Bluffton (Oct. 8) start the month of October while three of the final six regular season matches will be home against John Carroll (Oct. 11), Baldwin-Wallace (Oct. 18) and Otterbein (Oct. 29).

Mount Union went 21-11 in 2010 to finish fourth in the OAC and the Raiders made the semifinals of the OAC Tournament for a seventh straight season.
