GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Mount Union volleyball team finished up play at the Kenyon Invitational with two wins on Saturday afternoon, dropping both Transylvania (Ky.) and Kenyon in three sets.
The victories came one day after the 22nd-ranked Purple Raiders defeated 12th-ranked Juniata (Pa.) in five sets.
The Raiders snuck by Transylvania in the first set (27-25) but then cruised by the Pioneers 25-12 in the second set and 25-15 in the third set to take the match.
Junior Taylor Webb (Geneva/Geneva) led Mount Union with 10 kills, while freshman Kendall Young (Mentor/Lake Catholic) posted seven. Sophomore Brittany Woodard (Diamond/Southeast) and sophomore Sarah Schleich (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) had 13 and 11 assists, respectively.
The Raiders had no trouble with Kenyon in the nightcap, winning easily in three sets and outscoring the Ladies 50-26 over the final two sets. Kenyon went 0-3 for the weekend and is now 2-7 overall. It was the first meeting between the two schools since 2005. The Raiders have not lost to the Ladies since 1986.
Mount Union (9-3) takes its six-game winning streak to the court on Tuesday night in Alliance against Geneva (Pa.). Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
