No. 9 Volleyball Travels To Case Western Reserve Wednesday

Mount Union's volleyball team, ranked No. 9 in the nation released Sept. 10, travels to Cleveland, Ohio to take on Case Western Reserve on Wednesday, September 11 at 7 p.m.

Mount Union enters with an 8-0 record on the season as Case enters at 4-4.

The Purple Raiders are coming off a 4-0 weekend as they competed at the Nazareth Golden Flyer Invitational and won the tournament championship over host, Nazareth College 3-0.

Senior Taylor Webb (Geneva/Geneva) led the Raiders as she was selected as the Tournament MVP and to the All-Tournament team. Junior Nicole Snyder (Mentor/Lake Catholic) joined Webb on the All-Tournament team as the both finished with double-digit kills and digs. Webb recorded 34 kills with 11 digs as Snyder finished with 23 kills and 25 digs.

The Spartans enter Wednesday after going 2-2 at the Marcia French Memorial Tournament last weekend. Case was led by Isabelle Wagner at the tournament as she was selected to the All-Tournament Team and collected 47 kills.

Case won over John Carroll, 3-1 and lost in two straight matches to Buffalo (N.Y.) St., 3-2, and Geneva (Pa.) 3-1. The Spartans bounced back to defeat Capital in three straight sets to end the weekend.

The Last Meeting

Mount Union and Case met last year in Alliance, as the Raiders defeated the Spartans 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15). This was the first loss by the Spartans on their 2012 campaign when they entered 8-0. The Raiders moved to 6-3 on the 2012 season after ending the streak for Case.

Snyder and Webb led the attack for the Raiders with 16 and 10 kills, respectively, as Snyder added 14 digs on the night. Junior Brittany Woodard (Diamond/Southeast) notched 20 assists as junior Sarah Schleich (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) tallied 15.

The Spartans were led by Hanna Collins who recorded 13 kills in the loss as Rachel Gulasey received 22 digs. Natalie Southard chipped in with 10 kills against Mount Union a year ago.

Up Next

No. 9 Mount Union hosts the Purple Raider Classic this upcoming weekend (Sept. 13 & 14) at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex. The classic is set to get underway Friday at 3 p.m.
